The incessant itching, redness and dryness associated with eczema is often the driving point to finding a solution.   Sadly and unfortunately while there is not always a magical ‘cure’ for eczema, there is plenty you can do to help manage it topically and internally to reduce the frequency and severity of flare-ups.

What is eczema?

Eczema is a Fungus Candida and is most often linked to an allergy, poor gut health.  This condition often appears as an itchy, red rash on the body.   While it can appear all over the body it does typically appear in the joint areas such as arms grooves and behind the knees.

Who gets eczema?

Eczema usually develops in early childhood and is more common in people in children and people with a low immune system.

What causes eczema?

Certain substances, allergens or conditions called trigger factors can cause eczema.   Irritants such as harsh/chemical soaps and detergents, wool, skin infections, dry skin, low humidity, heat, sweating or emotional stress have been linked with eczema.  Allergens such as dust mites, pollen, moulds, or foods can also cause eczema.

How do I know if I have eczema?

No matter which part of your skin is affected, eczema is almost always itchy however since there are many other skin conditions that cause itchiness we do recommend consulting your Doctor first before self diagnosing and treating.  It has been said that with eczema the itching sometimes starts before the rash.  In infants, the itchy rash can lead to an oozing, crusting condition, mainly on the face and scalp, although it can also happen on their arms, legs, back, and chest.

How do I best manage my eczema symptoms?

The best way to immediately stop the itch is to apply topical products can really help to sooth the eczema.  However most of the time it’s all about dealing with your body internally that is the main key to ultimate healing.  Eczema is caused by triggers and one of the best places to start is illuminating those triggers. We recommend obtaining what your triggers may be – such as allergies, gut issues, low immune system or other issues.   Avoiding certain foods, fabrics, detergents, chemicals  or activities may help avoid a flare ups. Here are 5 easy steps you can take to

1. CUT OUT all chemicals – many products contain chemicals that are damaging to our skin (and our planet) and these can have a massive effect on the health of your skin topically and internally.

2. Constantly moisturise – this is what helps to sooth and keep the eczema at bay while you address your inner health.

3. Eat healthier – Eating more greens, adding in omegas and probiotics can lead to decreased inflammation and therefore healing of the gut.

4. Take baths – using a bath milk containing oatmeal can be a life saver.

5. Shower more – this is especially important after exercising.  Leaving sweat on you is not a good idea when battling eczema.
